RoundGlass Foundation Provides Groceries to Over 8,000 Families in 307 Villages
The RoundGlass Foundation has come to the rescue of senior citizens and daily-wage labourers in Punjab, one of the states following the strictest norms of lockdown.
Founded by Seattle-based NRI, Sunny Singh, the foundation has disbursed food supplies to over 8,000 families across 10 districts.
“We have been working in 432 villages. We have local volunteers and contacts with the village heads. It is through them we found that the situation was dire; the senior citizens, the disabled and the daily-wage workers were harshly affected. We made a plan and started distributing groceries in starting April 2. We have reached out to 307 villages so far,” says Prernaa Langa, head of the RoundGlass Foundation.
RoundGlass has so far distributed grocery packets to 8,328 families. The items include wheat flour, rice, pulses, edible oil, and spices enough for a family of four to five members for a fortnight. The foundation prioritises the beneficiaries with the help of the district administration.
“We cover the villages where we are already working; they don’t have enough local-governance funds. We collate the preliminary information from the village administration and then take help from our volunteers to identify senior citizens, widows, daily-wage workers, physically-challenged people, and Below Poverty Line cardholders,” says Prerna.
“We ensure the safety of our volunteers and the recipients of food items. Our in-house doctor has trained the volunteers about sanitisation. Our grocery packets are sanitised, our vehicles are also sanitised. We maintain social distancing during distribution. Those who pack food items also undergo temperature checks,” adds Prerna.
“Our drive is being primarily funded by our founder, Sunny Singh. Besides, we have contributions from our citizen donors. Our employees have also donated one day’s salary.”
The RoundGlass Foundation has been working in Punjab villages in the field of plantation, solid-waste management, and education, with the involvement of children and youth.
